C-SPAN Airing FIRE Debate Tonight!

By April 21, 2014

Tonight at 8:00 p.m., C-SPAN will be airing FIRE’s “State of Free Speech in America” panel discussion and debate held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. An impressive panel of leading free speech scholars engaged in a lively debate on March 25 over the implications of free expression both in America and abroad. Sitting on the panel were Stanley Fish of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Foundation for Individual Rights in Education President Greg Lukianoff, University of Chicago Law School Professor Eric Posner, and Jonathan Rauch of the Brookings Institution. National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen moderated the debate, saying it was “one of the greatest panels I’ve ever moderated. What an electric discussion!”

Audience members enjoyed a stimulating conversation that ranged from international censorship of speech to academic freedom to the efficacy of the First Amendment in the new digital age. The panelists’ spirited but respectful disagreements over the fundamental necessity of freedom of expression made for an exciting event, so be sure to catch this broadcast!

The panel discussion will air on C-SPAN and be streamed LIVE at http://www.c-span.org/live/.
