CFN Launches 2009-2010 Incentive Program

FIRE is gearing up for another year defending liberty on campus and thousands of CFN members across the country are returning to their campuses. We at the CFN are excited to work with them this fall to defend and extend liberty on campus. To this end, we are proud to announce the launch of the CFN 20092010 Incentive Program.

Here's how it works: whenever a CFN member engages in liberty-minded activism including publishing op-eds on FIRE cases and related issues, hosting FIRE speakers, recruiting new members, and even posting FIRE widgets to a website, blog, or Facebook profilehe or she earns points. These points accumulate to earn prizes. The point/prize breakdown is as follows:

25 points A copy of The Shadow University by FIRE Co-Founders Alan Charles Kors and Harvey Silverglate.

50 points FIRE Nalgene water bottle.

75 points - $15 gift card to Borders, Starbucks, or iTunes.

100 points A free book on liberty. Choices include Don Downs' Restoring Free Speech and Liberty on Campus, KC Johnson's and Stuart Taylor's Until Proven Innocent, and Jonathan Rauch's Kindly Inquisitors.

125 points Induction into the CFN's Prometheus Society and guaranteed acceptance to the 2010 CFN Summer Conference. Only five students out of the CFN's 3,000 members have achieved this distinction.

Active CFN members have the opportunity to compete for the grand prize: a $2,500 scholarship or a technology bundle including a 42" widescreen, flat-panel HDTV, a library of FIRE DVDs, a MacBook with a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 13" screen, an 16GB iPod Touch fully loaded with FIRE videos and podcast library, and Flip Ultra HD Camera. The second-place winner will receive the choice of the HDTV or the MacBook and the third-place winner will receive the choice of the iPod or the Flip Ultra camera.

Previous incentive programs have been very successful. Last fall, the top three winners of the incentive program collectively recruited over 240 new members as well as hosted FIRE speakers and Sean Clerget, who won the grand prize, wrote an excellent editorial about free speech at Wabash College. In the spring, grand prize winner Kyle Duerstein organized four lectures by FIRE's Adam Kissel across the University of Wisconsin system. The runners-up hosted FIRE's speakers and recruited their friends into the CFN.

We look forward to what students will accomplish over the next year and we stand ready to work with them to educate their campus communities for liberty. Students interested in joining the CFN can register here.
