Congratulations to the Winners of Our iPad Contest!

Last week, 11 FIRE fans competed for the chance to win one of three great prizes by submitting a photo of themselves showing some love for freedom of speech and campaigning to get “likes” for their photos on Facebook. FIRE was impressed with all the entries we received, and any of the entrants would have been great winners. The votes are now in, and today we are happy to announce the winners.

Third Place: Nathan O'Connor, Indiana University

“I believe free speech is important on campus because diversity of opinion
is also worth protecting.”

Nathan will take home a $75 Amazon gift card for placing third.

Second Place: Franklin Bellamy, University of Virginia School of Law

“I believe free speech is important on campus because offensive speech can be what you learn the most from.”

Franklin won our second place prize, a $100 Amazon gift card.

First Place: Steven Amos, University of Toledo

I believe free speech is important on campus because many countries don't have the same freedoms we do so students should understand the rights that were given to them so that they may speak freely without worries of prosecution or persecutions.”

Steven will receive our grand prize: a brand new iPad!

Honorable mentions

We had an incredibly close race for these prizes, and some great pictures deserve recognition here as well. Check out these other photos from the contest we especially liked.

Emily Harrison, University of Minnesota Law School

“I believe free speech is important on campus because allowing for a free exchange of ideas, and, in turn, the production and dissemination of knowledge, ideas, policy, and research at universities greatly benefits students and society at large.”

Nathan Wilson, Kennesaw State University

“I believe free speech is important on campus because of the heart felt thanks we were given for giving students a chance to express themselves.”

Matthew Reeps, Central Piedmont Community College

“I believe free speech is important on campus because if the only free speech zone is under construction, who can speak?”
