If you haven’t been keeping up, check out Eugene Volokh’s thoughts on the NYU Mohammed cartoon controversy over at the Volokh Conspiracy. As always, Eugene is as prolific as he is brilliant, with over half a dozen insightful posts on the topic so far. His post “NYU President Sexton on Academic Freedom” is perhaps my favorite. In it he concludes that NYU President Sexton’s unwillingness to stand up for principle has resulted in “[a] sad day for elite American higher education; a sad day for NYU; and a sad day for the Sexton presidency and the Sexton legacy.”

I recommend that you read them all.
