FIRE's Red Alert Widget Helps Draw Attention to Worst Campus Violators

If I were an administrator at one of the institutions on FIRE's Red Alert listBrandeis University, Colorado College, Johns Hopkins University, Michigan State University, and Tufts University—I'd feel a deep sense of dread at the thought of seeing my school branded as one of the "worst of the worst" when it comes to respecting liberty on campus. I'd feel especially leaden with dread if my school was to be labeled as such in the pages of U.S. News & World Report's annual college rankings issue.

In a few weeks, when the annual issue hits newsstands with our ad smack in the middle of the rankings section, that's precisely how administrators at Brandeis, Colorado College, Johns Hopkins, Michigan State and Tufts will be feeling.

The annual U.S. News ad (here's last year's) is remarkably effective, drawing tens of thousands of new readers to FIRE's website and inviting badly needed scrutiny on these institutions of higher learning. It's also expensive, even given the decline of our magazine industry. Fortunately, those who want to help get the word out about the worst violators of campus freedom now have a free and effective new tool at their disposal: FIRE's Red Alert widget.

The Red Alert widget, as you can see above, works the same as FIRE's Spotlight and Speech Code of the Month widgets. By copying the code for the widget (which you'll see by scrolling down the right hand side of our home page), and dropping it anywhere onto your personal website or blog, you can add our widget to your site. Clicking on the widget will take viewers to FIRE's Red Alert page, where they will learn of the many transgressions of Brandeis University, Colorado College, Johns Hopkins University, Michigan State University, and Tufts University.

Don't forget to visit the CFN's widget page for information on other ways to get FIRE's widgets on your webpage.
