Please join us for FIRE’s Fall 2013 Webinar Series! We have three great webinars lined up; all you need to do is register! There are plenty of reasons why you should attend our webinars, but here are just a few: 1. Free Sunglasses! What’s better than a free webinar? A free webinar and free sunglasses! Nothing complements your style more than a great pair of FIRE sunglasses and an awareness of your constitutional rights. 2. You’ll learn about the law. There have been major developments in the law regarding student rights in the past year. Just this past August, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed a bill granting public university students in the state the right to hire an attorney in non-academic disciplinary hearings. In “Getting the Law on Your Side: Legislative Solutions to Student Rights Problems,” Joe Cohn, FIRE’s legislative and policy director, will explain how laws like these can go a long way toward protecting student rights. 3. You’ll get tips on how to promote free speech on your campus. “Free Speech Walls and Beyond: Promoting and Defending the First Amendment on Campus” is a great webinar for students who want to take an active role in promoting speech on their campuses! Peter Bonilla, director of FIRE’s Individual Rights Defense Program, will offer advice on how to bring free speech advocacy to your campus. 4. You’ll find out about speech codes at American universities. In “What First Amendment? Unconstitutional Speech Codes on America’s Campuses,” Samantha Harris, director of speech code research, will teach you about the many ways in which colleges and universities restrict student and faculty members’ free speech rights in violation of the First Amendment and universities’ own promises of free speech. 5. They’re open to everyone! It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, professor, or someone who just cares about individual rights on campus; our webinars are open to the general public. We’d love to have you join us! Visit thefire.org/webinar to register!Pictured above: FIRE staffers who are excited about webinars (and free sunglasses)!
