'Freedom in Academia' Essay Contest Deadline Approaching

The deadline for submissions to FIRE's Third Annual "Freedom in Academia" Essay Contest is Monday, November 1. High school seniors graduating in 2011 should visit the contest page to submit an essay for the chance to win up to $5,000 in scholarship prizes.

FIRE's essay contest invites high school students from across the country to watch two videos about key FIRE cases, Political Correctness vs. Freedom of Thought - The Keith John Sampson Story and Think What We Think...Or Else: Thought Control on the American Campus, and analyze why it is critical to protect free speech on campus. The winning entries are published on The Torch (read the best essays from past years here).

This year, FIRE will award one first-place winner a $5,000 scholarship, one second-place winner a $2,500 scholarship, and five runners-up $1,000 scholarships.
