Help Give Students and Faculty a Happy New Year

By on December 28, 2006

In this period between the holidays, many people’s thoughts turn to last-minute charitable giving—after all, the combination of helping a worthy cause and holding off the IRS is surely a recipe for a happy holiday. If you’re one of those people, please consider giving to FIRE in these waning days of 2006. We make it easy—all you need to do is visit thefire.org/donate or go to the top of any FIRE website page and click the red “Donate Now” link on the right. You can give us a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift, and all donations are tax-deductible in the tax year in which they are made.

FIRE is fortunate to have a very close relationship with its donors. This is because, unlike with many charities, the interest that FIRE’s donors have in our mission directly correlates with the amount of success we have in combating campus injustice. Indeed, there have been a multitude of cases in which we know that e-mails to campus authorities from FIRE donors on our e-mail list were crucial in pressuring colleges and universities to change course and respect student and faculty rights (and every FIRE press release includes a link that makes it easy to e-mail college administrators and tell them how you feel). Certainly, college and university administrators have a great fear of being made to look bad by the media. But when that is compounded by hundreds or thousands of e-mails from individuals across the nation who object to what they are doing, the message starts to get through that it’s not just the media giving them a hard time—in fact, almost nobody supports their egregious actions. Without these e-mails from our donors and supporters, FIRE would be far less successful.

So please consider donating to FIRE this year (or next), and help us to continue our success in restoring liberty to academia. If you can’t afford it, please consider subscribing to our e-mail list (there’s a link next to the donation link at the top of every page where you can do this). Thank you all for your support this holiday season, and have a happy New Year!
