Racial Harassment Policy 07-08
Racial harassment is defined as conduct or action that is based on a person's race or color and creates a hostile environment that prevents effective learning or work performance. This definition is to be interpreted consistently with federal civil rights law.
Unlawful Harassment Policy Statement 07-08
Hostile Environment Harassment consists of unwelcome conduct when:
1. such conduct has the effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual\'s work or academic performance, or
2. such conduct has the effect of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working or learning environment.
Sexual Harassment Policy 07-08
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when:

Expression of Views by Visiting Speakers 07-08
The rights of expression guaranteed to faculty and students should also be provided to visiting speakers at North Carolina State University. All lawful speakers shall be accorded the right to present their views without disruption.
North Carolina State University has an obligation to protect the responsible exercise of the freedom of faculty and students teaching, seeking, and speaking the truth. The Board of Governors recognizes that the faculty and students should be protected in their responsible exercise of their rights of academic freedom (The Code, Section 600(2)), and further imposes upon all members of the University community a responsibility for maintaining an environment in which \"academic freedom flourishes and in which the rights of each member of the academic community are respected.\"

(1) It is the policy of the University of North Carolina to support and encourage full freedom, within the law, of inquiry, discourse, teaching, research, and publication for all members of the academic staffs of the constituent institutions. Members of the faculty are expected to recognize that accuracy, forthrightness, and dignity befit their association with the University and their position as men and women of learning. They should not represent themselves, without authorization, as spokespersons for the University of North Carolina or any of its constituent institutions.
(2) The University and its constituent institutions shall not penalize or discipline members of its faculties because of the exercise of academic freedom in the lawful pursuit of their respective areas of scholarly and professional interest and responsibility.
