Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures 07-08
For conduct to constitute sexual harassment in a higher education teaching context, the complainant(s) must show that (1) the behavior substantially interfered with a student’s academic performance, class participation, or educational opportunity, (2) the behavior would be regarded as offensive by a reasonable person in the same context, and (3) the behavior was persistent, pervasive, and not germane to the academic subject matter.
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature by one in an official University position or by a fellow University employee or student constitute sexual harassment when

such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work or academic performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.
Instrument of Student Governance 07-08
[N]o student or student group shall engage in conduct, or assist another in conduct, that adversely affects or creates a substantial risk of adversely affecting University interests including but not limited to the following:

The Code of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina: Academic Freedom and Tenure 07-08
The University of North Carolina is dedicated to the transmission and advancement of knowledge and understanding. Academic freedom is essential to the achievement of these purposes. The University therefore supports and encourages freedom of inquiry for faculty members and students, to the end that they may responsibly pursue these goals through teaching, learning, research, discussion, and publication, free from internal or external restraints that would unreasonably restrict their academic endeavors.
The University and each constituent institution shall protect faculty and students in
their responsible exercise of the freedom to teach, to learn, and otherwise to seek and speak the truth.
Policy on Use Of University Facilities For Noncommercial And Commercial Purposes 07-08
Subject to restrictions on the use of University facilities
prescribed elsewhere in this policy, the University permits assemblies and gatherings of
University-sponsored, University-affiliated and nonaffiliated groups (i) without prior
approval in Y-Court and the Carolina Union "Pit" and (ii) with prior approval, in any other
exterior location.
