May Student Spotlight: Jon Rice, Pitzer College '13

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

FIRE's Student Spotlight feature recognizes students who are doing outstanding work to promote individual rights on their campuses. This month, FIRE recognizes the work of Jon Rice, a recent graduate of Pitzer College in Claremont, California. Since attending FIRE's CFN Conference in 2010, he has used his leadership roles in student government to encourage reform for campus speech codes, including a system-wide bias incident policy that was named FIRE's Speech Code of the Month for April 2010.

I recently asked Jon to discuss his experience of working for speech code reform and share any advice he has for other students who want to support speech rights on campus. You can read the full interview on FIRE's Student Spotlight page.

FIRE's Student Spotlight feature will resume in Fall 2013. To nominate a student or student group who is promoting free speech on campus, email emily@thefire.org.
