New Video Highlights Free Speech Troubles at Southwestern College

A short new video from San Diego-area artist Katherine Sweetman offers a nice snapshot of the free speech troubles that have plagued Southwestern College for the last two months, attracting widespread media attention, public outrage, and the intervention of FIRE and the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

In Sweetman’s video, SWC English Professor and faculty union president Phil Lopez—who taught his first class at Southwestern College in 1973—discusses the October 22 rally that ultimately led to his unjustified suspension, along with three other faculty members:
