Ring in the New Academic Year with FIRE’s Speech Code Widgets

FIRE's full page ad in U.S. News and World Report's 2009 "America's Best Colleges" issue should be all the reminder you need that the new academic year has very much arrived, and that FIRE is hitting the ground running in our ongoing mission to rid America's colleges of oppressive speech codes.

Our ad is already gaining significant notice, drawing yet more well-deserved shame to the five "worst of the worst" schools on FIRE's Red Alert list.

If you want to help bring attention to the speech codes in effect at your school or any of the other nearly 350 schools rated on FIRE's Spotlight, FIRE's Speech Code Widgets are the way to go. Simply go to the Spotlight page of any of the schools in our survey, copy the javascript from the text box below the widget, and paste it onto your blog or website. It's free, updates automatically, and if you email us a link to your posting, we'll even send you a free t-shirt! And if you display FIRE's Speech Code of the Month Widget on your site, we'll send you a free coffee mug!

The widgets are a quick and effective way to pressure schools to revisit their vague and overbroad speech codes, and several of have already done so with the help of FIRE's supporters. Put FIRE's widgets on your website today and help make this our most successful year yet in the battle against speech codes.
