‘The Torch’ Recognized by the Education Writers Association as One of Nation’s Best!

FIRE is thrilled to announce that our blog, The Torch, has been recognized by the Education Writers Association with a third place award in its “Best Blog - Education Organizations and Experts” category. Praising The Torch as “tightly written,” judges for the annual awards recognized FIRE’s range of reporting for providing “fresh perspectives on education-related issues.”

The Education Writers Association’s (EWA’s) National Awards for Education Reporting honor individuals and outlets from across the country for “tireless reporting, compelling storytelling, trenchant criticism and sterling analysis.” Approximately 430 entries were submitted in categories such as “Opinion Journalism” and “Beat Reporting,” and each entry was judged by a panel of judges from some of the nation’s leading media platforms. FIRE is proud to join outlets such as The Chronicle of Higher Education and The News & Observer and organizations such as The Thomas B. Fordham Institute and New America Foundation in receiving this distinction. All of this year’s winners will be recognized at the annual EWA conference this May in Nashville, Tennessee.

As our readers know, The Torch is the vibrant center of FIRE’s public commentary on campus issues. With its unique focus and timely, informed perspective, The Torch generates the critical public attention necessary to expose campus rights abuses and celebrate the importance of protecting civil liberties. FIRE is thrilled to have our hard work recognized by such a prestigious group, and we’d like to publicly thank the Education Writers Association for the honor. Even more importantly, we’d like to thank you—our readers—for your continuing support!
