Which point was that? The one about how I’m not supposed to be open and honest with people while doing all I can to make their organization fail if they challenge my unquestionable authority? Oh wait, that’s the point you actually get.

The point you want to make with me is that I should be respectful with you, when clearly you have a problem with an employee doing illegal drugs in the office to which you turn a blind eye.

BTW, I certainly appreciate the word-for-word talking points memo you gave athletic department when we decided to explore moving under their purview.  It makes me warm in all kids of places to read, verbatim, your words coming from other people’s e-mail accounts.

Do what you want! There’s no university policy in place that says I have to be respectful to anybody or grant them my time.

Yeah, I’d prefer not to, so, I’m gonna have to say no.

Wil – your language and tone is unacceptable in any setting, much less in this one where advisors who have NO agenda except to help you further the mission of your organization are offering insight. If you are on campus, I would like to meet with you asap. If you are not, we need to talk via phone. Where can I reach you?

So, in other words,  in a year in which we don’t know if we’re going to even be able to provide prize money for Homecoming/First Friday, you want us to participate in a recruiting event that acquired us zero members last year and provides no achievable benefit to the organization, while costing us money (in the form of flyers, brochures, and promotional items) just because It will “look good” and because we’d be the only Big 7 organization to choose not to participate? Does Marty Know you were smoking crack in the office this afternoon? because that’s the only semi-logical explanation I can glean.

Let me tell you something, I’m not going to let you bully the organization into doing the things you want us to do or perceive as important when they take away our resources from being able to concentrate on our mission. If there are events that dovetail into the mission of the organization, that’s great, but as six (6) previous Central Spirit presidents (Angela Snyder, Chip Dukes, Barry Jones, Chris Craven, PJ Mancuso, and Jeffrey Daniel) have all intimated to me, recruiting members into central spirit through events like organization fairs doesn’t bring us strong members,  it brings members that are essentially organizational leeches that join simply to go to a few games and get better football tickets as a result, and then they usually drop off after football season. I would trust the advice of six different people that have been in my shoes and given me the same advice over yours any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

If you want to turn this into a holy war, we can. The ball is in your court.

They have made a lot of changes for the Fall and expect to have the largest numbers ever.  They are expecting over 250 organizations to be involved including community partners.  If you and your directors decide not to do it, I would put together a rationale as this is one of the times you can show that you support student government events.  In addition you would be the ONLY one of the Big 7 organizations not represented-just something to think about.  If done right this is a great recruiting mechanism.  It’s not often you get to see 4000+ students at once.  This could be a great project for Summer.  I think she would have a blast.  Just thought I would share my thoughts.  Let me know what you decide after you talk to you directors.

Thanks,

Laura

I went for central spirit last year and it was a colossal waste of time.

I know that you probably got this through the listserv, but I got informed that there was some listserv problems last week, so I thought I would double check that you got this information.  I think it would be a great idea for both of your organizations to do this :)

Dear Student Organizations,

Registration for the Fall Organizations Fair is now open on OrgSync. The deadline to register is July 1st at 5:00 PM. Locate the form by clicking on “Tools” followed by “Forms” on the sidebar menu. Click on “Organizations Fair 2010 Registration” to see the full description and click on “Fill Out” after you have read the full description (includes important new information).

The Organizations Fair is an opportunity for all Clemson University students to explore ways to get involved and for the over 360 recognized undergraduate and graduate student organizations to recruit new members.
The Fair is held in conjunction with the Welcome Back Festival held in downtown Clemson – an event that draws well over 5,000 students annually, Meet the Greeks and the Bowman Block Party sponsored by CLEMSONLiVE. It is traditionally one of the most exciting days on campus! We anticipate that this year’s Fair will be the biggest ever so make plans for your organization to participate!

If you did not attend a training session for OrgSync or have not created your organization’s portal, please follow the instructions on the attached flyer to get started.
