2017 Faculty Conference papers now available

FIRE is pleased to announce the publication of the 2017 Faculty Conference Proceedings, which includes papers presented at last year’s inaugural FIRE Faculty Conference. Approximately 60 faculty members convened at the University of North Texas College of Law in Dallas, Texas, from October 5-7, 2017, to present and discuss research related to academic freedom and free expression on campus.

The conference proceedings include original research and critical narratives by April Kelly-Woessner, Joseph Yockey, David R. Hodge, David Demers, Kathleen Bartzen Culver, and Jason Shepard. The paper topics include political tolerance among college-aged individuals, concerns about the implementation of Bias Assessment and Response Teams on campus, legal challenges to faculty free speech, religious understanding in the discipline of psychology, and media responses to campus free speech incidents.

We hope the publication of this volume will contribute to both the academic research and the national conversation taking place on these topics, as well as academic freedom more broadly.

This year’s FIRE Faculty Conference will take place from October 11-13, 2018, in Chicago. Apply now to attend! We will be releasing information about conference presenters and the keynote speaker soon, so check back here for further announcements.
