Applications Open for FSN’s 2017 Prometheus Society

The FIRE Student Network is thrilled to announce that we are now accepting applications and nominations for FSN’s 2017 Prometheus Society. The Prometheus Society takes its name from the Titan of Greek mythology who stole fire from the gods and gifted it to humankind. In keeping with the moral courage of its namesake, the Prometheus Society comprises the most dynamic student free speech advocates in the nation.

Past inductees earned their place by working with their peers, campus administrators, professors, and FIRE staff to promote and fight for free expression on campus. Through the development of strategies to reform speech codes, the passage of the Chicago Statement at their schools, the execution of hard-hitting free speech campaigns, and the writing and publishing of trenchant pieces in defense of free speech, all have worked tirelessly to preserve the First Amendment for the current generation and pass the torch of liberty to the next.

The handful of students selected to join the Prometheus Society will receive various perks and privileges throughout the year in recognition of their work defending student rights. Among other honors, Prometheus Society members will be invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to Philadelphia to meet with FIRE staff before the annual FSN Summer Conference. They will also be profiled on FIRE’s Newsdesk and invited to travel to exclusive FIRE events throughout the year.

If you would like to be considered for membership in the Prometheus Society, please submit the application below. You can also nominate deserving students by emailing students@thefire.org. Applications for this year are due on June 30.
