Mana Afsari

Program Associate for Student Outreach

Mana Afsari received her undergraduate degree in Classics from the University of Southern California in 2020, and studied Classics at the University of Cambridge, where she is a member of Queens’ College.

Before coming to FIRE, Mana worked as a Public Affairs Assistant in the U.S. Department of State’s Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe and as a UN-Affairs Assistant for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria. Mana also served as a Persian and Dari translator at the Melissa Network for migrant and refugee women in Athens, Greece, and continues to translate Persian poetry pro-bono for Iranian refugee poets.

Mana’s study of classical rhetoric as an undergraduate and her previous work in language arts and cross-cultural advocacy make her especially excited to encourage heterodox debate and civil discourse in higher education as a Program Associate for Student Outreach at FIRE. Though civil liberties advocacy never rests, Mana spends her time outside of FIRE enjoying her other, less urgent passion: used books.
