Tim Murphy graduated from the College of William & Mary with a B.A. in government and history in 2010. His studies focused on the U.S. Civil Rights Movement, from which he developed a strong appreciation for the importance of First Amendment rights in making social change. In 2012, he joined the Washington, D.C.-based Marijuana Policy Project, which successfully legalized cannabis in Colorado by ballot initiative, making Colorado the first state to legalize cannabis for recreational use since its federal prohibition. Tim joined FIRE in 2017 as its new Digital Outreach and Alumni fellow. He will be expanding FIRE’s alumni network and providing opportunities for alumni to get involved.
When not encouraging alumni to become First Amendment advocates, he is busy getting embarrassed on the tennis court, cooking overly-elaborate meals, or plastering Calvin and Hobbes comics around FIRE’s Philadelphia headquarters.
