Student activists advocating for everything from heavy metal music to metal workers’ rights should check out FIRE’s Do’s and Don'ts of Campus Activism video, which features helpful tips for any college student who wants to make their voice heard.

FIRE’s tips include:

  • Know your college’s policies and know your rights.
  • Build coalitions.
  • Use common sense.
  • Document everything.
  • Ask for help.

Students have the right to speak out on campus, and those with something to say should feel free to do so. If you encounter roadblocks along the way, know that FIRE is here to help.

Watch the video for the complete list of campus activism do’s and don’ts. You can also subscribe to FIRE’s YouTube channel to receive automatic notifications when new material is posted.

And don't forget to check out this week's full Back to School series on our website, highlighting FIRE's best student and faculty resources including: FIRE’s FAQ for Student Protests on Campus, how to look up your school's speech codes with FIRE's Spotlight Database, and how you can help codify free speech on campus.

This video was created by FIRE's 2016 Summer Interns. We’ll begin accepting applications for our 2017 summer internships in October. Additional information on how to get involved year-round can be found on our FIRE Student Network page.
