Calling All Law Students: Apply Now for FIRE's Summer Legal Internship

With the start of a new semester upon us, FIRE is issuing a call to all rising second- and third-year law students: Apply now for our Summer 2010 Legal Internship!

FIRE is looking for law students with a deep interest in core constitutional liberties. Our legal interns will work directly with FIRE attorneys to perform legal research and compose memoranda related to current FIRE cases and issues. Therefore, we are looking for applicants with excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills. Additionally, our legal internship program, though supervised and well-structured, allows students significant autonomy in developing their own legal interests within FIRE's areas of expertise and our focus on constitutional law on college campuses. FIRE attorneys will also be available for assistance in the development of writing samples.

As a former FIRE legal intern myself, I know firsthand the value of a FIRE legal internship. (Will Creeley, our Director of Legal and Public Advocacy, is also a former legal intern.) If you're interested in constitutional law, and in particular First Amendment law, you will find FIRE's legal internship to be extremely rewarding. Following my first year of law school at the University of Michigan, I wanted to improve my writing and research abilities while pursuing my interest in First Amendment and civil liberties issues, and FIRE proved to be a perfect fit. I enjoyed working with talented and dedicated attorneys, as well as a collegial, resourceful staff, on matters that I found meaningful. I also learned a tremendous amount of constitutional law and learned about how the legal issues FIRE works on impact students and faculty across the country. I returned to campus that fall feeling fulfilled and more prepared for my second year of law school.
