California State University, Bakersfield: Prohibition on “Politically Related” Posters Prevents Proposition Proponent’s Posting

As the 2018 election season drew to a close, CSU Bakersfield student Tristan Weiser sought permission to post flyers promoting a state ballot proposition and a rally supporting the proposition. While administrators first permitted his flyers, they prohibited him from posting more flyers on the basis that a policy barred “politically related” flyers unless they related to an event. After FIRE wrote to the university, it agreed to suspend the policy pending a review.
