On April 7, 2022, NYU’s Law Students for Justice in Palestine released a statement making several allegations, including that the “Zionist grip on media is omnipresent” and “people living under occupation have a right to resist their violent occupation,” which led other students to submit harassment complaints against the group. NYU announced it would investigate the complaints, “as required by [its] policies.” FIRE wrote NYU on April 29 explaining that LSJP’s statement does not meet the exacting standard for punishable peer harassment and that, because NYU makes strong promises that students enjoy free expression, the university must end its investigation without disciplinary action against students.
