Central New Mexico Community College Shuts Down Campus Paper for Publishing 'Sex Issue'

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

FIRE has written to Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) following the college's outrageous censorship of its student newspaper, The CNM Chronicle. CNM suspended the operations of the newspaper after the Chronicle printed a "Sex Issue," reportedly removing the issue from newsstands around campus and confiscating them from students. A statement by the college defending its blatantly unconstitutional censorship of the Chronicle stated that "CNM felt the content was offensive and not appropriate for the educational mission of CNM." FIRE has asked CNM to immediately reinstate the paper and renounce this shocking act of censorship.

UPDATE: CNM has reportedly reinstated the paper.
