Chelsea Manning Is Found Guilty of Espionage and Theft

On June 7, 2010, it is announced that Chelsea Manning was arrested for leaking what became known as the “Iraq War Logs” to WikiLeaks. The documents were not released until October 22 of the same year.

On July 30, 2013, Manning is found guilty of 20 of the 22 charges, including violating the Espionage Act. In August of the same year, she was given a 35 year jail sentence.

In the last moments of his presidency, Barack Obama commutes Chelsea Manning’s sentence, allowing her to be released on May 27, 2017. Manning served seven years of her 35 year sentence.
