Deadline to submit proposals for FIRE faculty conference extended to April 14

A quick update to our faculty supporters and to the many faculty nationwide who have expressed interest in participating in our faculty conference in October: To accommodate as many applications as possible, we are extending the deadline to submit proposals to Friday, April 14.

The conference is scheduled for Oct. 5–7 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and we will announce the conference venue in the coming weeks.

To briefly reiterate the aims of the conference, FIRE invites faculty from all disciplines to submit proposals for paper presentations addressing the current state of and challenges to academic freedom. Panel discussions will accompany the presentation of each paper, and selected presenters will receive an honorarium of $3,000. Our complete call for proposals is available online. I also addressed a handful of frequently asked questions from faculty in this recent post.

We will notify presenters of their selection in early May and will soon be providing additional details for faculty interested in attending the conference.

We’re encouraged by the number of well-considered and fascinating submissions we’ve received to this point, and we hope that extending the deadline for submissions will encourage even more faculty to consider applying! Any questions about the conference or the submission process can be emailed to us at facultyconference@thefire.org.
