Another type of prohibited sexual harassment is
the “hostile environment” category. Here the harassment is not linked to the grant or denial of a job or academic benefit. Rather, the harassment often takes the form of offcolor
remarks or jokes, physical conduct (patting, fondling) and the display of
objectionable pictures. If an offensive work or academic environment is created, or if the individual’s work or academic progress suffer significantly as a result of the conduct, sexual harassment can be found to have occurred.
