Students, student organizations, and nonstudent individuals or groups sponsored by students/student organizations desiring to demonstrate, picket, or distribute literature on the campus are encouraged to file a written request with the Vice President for Student Services indicating the preferred time, place, and manner of such activity.
The undergraduate Claremont Colleges, Pomona College, Scripps College, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College together with Claremont Graduate University, Keck Graduate Institute and Claremont University Consortium (CUC) are all member institutions of “The Claremont Colleges.” Each of these member institutions respects the rights of free speech and peaceable assembly, and supports their exercise.
Peaceful demonstrations may take place on campus provided that:
a permit is obtained from the Director of Student Activities & Multicultural Student Affairs three (3) days prior to the demonstration to ensure the rights and safety of all involved. The Director of Student Activities & Multicultural Student Affairs has the authority to grant a permit in less than three (3) days if all processes related to issuing the permit are completed and approved.
The University supports as fundamental to the democratic process the
rights of all members of the University community to express their views and to protest actions
or opinions with which there is disagreement. A university is where individuals express
diverse ideas and viewpoints in an atmosphere free of any physical force.
