Examples of conduct which may constitute sexual harassment include but are not limited to:

1. Requests for sexual favors;

2. Unwelcome physical contact such as hugging, rubbing, touching, patting, pinching or brushing another’s body

3. Veiled suggestions of sexual activities;

4. Requests for private meetings outside of class or business hours for other than legitimate academic or business-related purposes;

5. Use in the classroom of sexual jokes, stories or images in no way germane to the subject of the class;

6. Use in the workplace of sexual jokes, stories or images in no way germane to the subject of the work environment;

7. Remarks about a person’s body or sexual relationships, activities or experience that are in no way germane to the subject of the work or academic environment;

8. Use of inappropriate body images to advertise events.

Some examples of conduct that may constitute harassment are:

* Making sexual gestures, or displaying sexually suggestive objects, pictures, cartoons, posters, calendars or computer screens.

* Making or using derogatory comments, epithets, slurs, or jokes of a sexual nature.
* Verbal sexual advances or propositions.

* Verbal abuse of a sexual nature, graphic commentaries about an individual’s body, sexually degrading words used to describe an individual, suggestive or obscene letters, notes, electronic mail messages, or invitations.

Sexual harassment encompasses any sexual attention that is unwanted. Examples of the verbal or physical conduct prohibited by B Prohibited Acts above include, but are not limited to: … 5. A pattern of conduct (not legitimately related to the subject matter of a course if one is involved) intended to discomfort or humiliate, or both, that includes one or more of the following:
1. comments of a sexual nature; or
2. sexually explicit statements, questions, jokes, or anecdotes;
6. A pattern of conduct that would discomfort or humiliate, or both, a reasonable person at whom the conduct is directed that includes one or more of the following:
1. unnecessary touching, patting, hugging, or brushing against a person’s body;
2. remarks of a sexual nature about a person’s clothing or body; or
3. remarks about sexual activity or speculations about previous sexual experience.

Sexual harassment may be verbal, visual or physical conduct.

Examples include:

Sexual innuendos and other seductive behavior, including pressure for sexual activity such as repeated, unwanted requests for dates, and repeated inappropriate personal comments, staring, or touching;

Remarks of a sexual nature about a person’s clothing or body;
Unwelcome and inappropriate letters, telephone calls, electronic mail, or other communications or gifts.

Conduct may violate the University Policy on Sexual Harassment only if it meets the definition set out in that Policy.

Types of behavior which may constitute sexual harassment include, but are not limited to:
* Sexist, sexually suggestive or intimidating remarks or behavior;
* Inappropriate and offensive uninvited sexual advances;
* Solicitation of sexual activity or other sex-linked behavior by promise of reward;
* Coercion of sexual activity by threat of punishment;
* Sexual assault.

Examples of inappropriate behavior often cited in sexual harassment complaints include, but are not limited to, the following: sexual teasing, jokes, remarks, or questions; sexual looks and gestures; sexual innuendoes or stories; sexual favoritism; pressure for dates or sexual favors; gifts, letters, calls, e-mails, or materials of a sexual nature; unwelcome physical contact (touching, patting, stroking, rubbing); sexually explicit visual material (calendars, posters, cards, software, internet materials); catcalls or whistling in a demeaning manner with sexual overtones; and/or inappropriate comments about dress or physical appearance.

Examples of sexually harassing conduct may include but shall not be limited to the following: (a) sexual assault, (b) derogatory comments of a sexual nature, (c) displaying sexually suggestive pictures or objects, (d) graphic verbal commentaries about a person’s body, (e) impeding or blocking movements, (f) jokes of a sexual nature, (g) slurs of a sexual nature, (h) suggestive gestures, (i) unwelcome touching. Some of these examples may not, however, constitute sexual harassment if appropriate to reasonable academic purposes.

Behavior that may be considered evidence of prohibited sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to, the following: … c) Direct propositions of a sexual nature;

(d) Subtle pressure for sexual activity, an element of which may be repeated staring;

(e) A pattern of sexually explicit statements, questions, jokes, or anecdotes, whether made orally, in writing, or through electronic media (see also II-19 Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources) … (g) A display of graphic sexual material (not legitimately related to the subject matter of a course, if one is involved, or to job requirements) in a context where others are not free to avoid the display because of an employment or educational requirement or without surrendering a privilege or opportunity that others may reasonably expect to enjoy in that location.

Examples of sexual harassment include, but are not limited to, the following, when they occur within the circumstances described in Section (3) above:

(a) use of gender-based verbal or written language offensive or degrading to a person of that gender, whether or not the content is sexual;

(b) inappropriate display of gender-based pictorial images offensive or degrading to a person of that gender, including but not limited to sexual posters, photographs, cartoons, drawings, or other displays of sexually suggestive objects or pictures;

(c) use of inappropriate gestures or body language of a sexual nature, including leering or staring at another….

jokes, questions, or comments about a person’s sexuality or sexual experience directed at or made in the presence of any individual.

10. the display in the workplace or an academic environment of sexually suggestive objects,
pictures, posters or cartoons;
11. introduction or utilization of inappropriate sexual material in an academic setting;
12.name calling, relating stories, gossip, comments, or jokes that may be derogatory toward a
particular sex;
13. the display of sexually suggestive graffiti;
14. asking questions about sexual conduct or sexual orientation or performances;
15. offensive, repeated requests for dates, even if made after work; and
16. continued advances of a sexual nature which are rejected, even after the parties break off a
consensual relationship.

2. nonverbal behaviors such as whistling or obscene gestures;
3. subtle pressure for sexual activity;
4. physical contact such as inappropriate touch, pinching or deliberate repeated brushing against another’s body; and
5. demands for sexual favors, accompanied by implied or overt promises of preferential treatment or threats.
