FIRE Announces First Annual Campus Freedom Network Conference

FIRE will be hosting its first annual Campus Freedom Network (CFN) conference, "Free Speech vs. Speech Codes: Reclaiming Your Rights on Campus," in Philadelphia, from June 26th 28th. The conference will provide an unprecedented opportunity for students to learn about their rights on campus, the history and philosophy of free speech and individual rights, and what they can do to actively promote liberty and defend basic freedoms on their campuses.

Forty student members of the CFN will be selected from across the country to travel to Philadelphia, the birthplace of American liberty, for two days of seminars, study and discussion.

Free speech luminaries associated with FIRE will give lectures covering different aspects of basic student rightsincluding speech codes and other restrictions on campus libertyand what can be done to protect these rights. Throughout the conference, students will be able to engage with FIRE staff and other prominent speakers during seminars and work sessions.

Students selected to attend will also receive an array of conference material, including free copies of books such as The Shadow University: The Betrayal of Liberty on America's Campuses and Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case as well as a box set of FIRE's highly acclaimed Guides to Students' Rights on Campus. Students will be able to take these resources back to their campuses and use them to educate their fellow students.

The conference will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia. Located in Center City on the Avenue of the Arts, the Doubletree is only a few blocks from City Hall and within walking distance of FIRE's Philadelphia office, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

FIRE will cover the cost of food and accommodations for all students selected to attend. Travel scholarships will be available for students traveling from outside the Philadelphia area.
