Dear President Gibson:

Thank you for SHSU’s response to our letter to you yesterday.

We were surprised, however, to see no mention of the most critical element of the situation, which was the police demand that students censor their “free speech wall” or else face criminal charges.

We again request that the university publicly acknowledge that this demand was a mistake, so that SHSU students no longer will be subject to censorship or the threat of criminal charges for their protected expression. SHSU need not comment on staff disciplinary matters in order to reassure students that their First Amendment rights are protected.

Please let us know of your intentions on this issue today, so that we can notify the public about SHSU’s response tomorrow.

Again, thank you for your prompt attention to matters of free speech at Sam Houston State University.
