FIRE ‘In the News’ for April

April brought with it FIRE victories for freedom of association at Central Michigan University and freedom of expression at the University of Rhode Island (URI), and media outlets across the country were keenly aware of our efforts as they reported on these cases and more.

The last day of the month alone ended with a lengthy commentary by Stanley Fish on FIRE’s work in The New York Times “TimesSelect” section, our new weekly Campus Alert column in the New York Post on our involvement at Tufts University, a mention in The New York Sun, and updated coverage on FIRE’s victory at URI on FOXNews.com.

The plight of the URI College Republicans, who were in danger of losing their official student group status after advertising a satirical scholarship, was also the subject of an Associated Press syndicated article that ran in multiple locations, including The Boston Globe and International Herald Tribune and our inaugural Campus Alert column

Furthermore, FIRE’s fight to eradicate a speech zone at Colorado State University was the focus of the local media in an article in the Rocky Mountain Chronicle and a staff editorial in the Rocky Mountain News.

Our thanks go to all who helped us get the word out about these and other violations of students’ rights on campus. For a complete list of all of FIRE’s media coverage for the month of April, please visit our In the News page, or e-mail media@thefire.org to subscribe to FIRE’s press release list.
