FIRE Launches Fully Redesigned Campus Freedom Network Website

Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

As we announced to current Campus Freedom Network members in an e-mail on Monday night, FIRE is launching a brand new, fully redesigned website for the CFN today. The redesign was a response to the terrific feedback we received over the past year about additional tools our members need to launch successful reform campaigns on their campuses and a reevaluation of our existing efforts in light of the incredible growth of the CFN over the past year.

One of the most exciting new features of the site is the addition of a custom social network, a change inspired by the networking we've seen take place at the CFN's annual summer conference. Having conference attendees meet FIRE staff and their peers at other schools is perhaps the best part of the conference, because these connections are invaluable when students return to their campuses and work to change their school's policies. The CFN website's new community section is an effort to keep that great networking going all year long.

Students will be able to maintain personal profiles, publish photos and videos of their activism efforts, and create groups for members at their school or in their local area.

The community section will also allow members to more easily communicate with FIRE staff and one another. Members will be able to collaborate through discussion threads, by posting on each other's walls, and by utilizing the CFN's online chat function. The goal is to allow members to share ideas, strategies, and information, as well as connect directly with the CFN staff.

The CFN website will also feature a new blog with content from The Torch that is most relevant to our members, as well as exclusive updates about what members around the country are doing to restore liberty to their campuses.

We have also beefed up our tools to invite new members. CFN members can now invite their friends by manually entering their e-mail addresses, by pulling contacts from their Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or AOL address books, and even by sending invites directly through any one of their favorite existing social networks, like Facebook. Additionally, members can keep track of who they have invited, who has or has not yet accepted their invitation, and even send reminders. Just as before, each successful registration will earn the member 5 points in the CFN incentive program.

In addition to all the exciting new content that we have added and will continue to add to this new site, we have transferred over all the existing content that members have come to rely upon to launch their reform campaigns. Students will still be able to access tips on hosting speakers and writing op-eds, and read case studies from other CFN members who have made progress restoring liberty to campus. Members will also be able to browse FIRE's Spotlight database, order free copies of FIRE's Guides to Student Rights on Campus, watch the latest FIRE videos, and take action in FIRE's Activism Center.

We're very excited about the brand-new CFN website, and we can't wait to see the amazing things our members will do with it.
