FIRE launches online store, welcomes America’s worst campus censors as first customers

  • Campus leaders of 10 Worst Colleges for Free Speech receiving gift certificates
  • FIRE: “We bet it will be harder for administrators to silence students and faculty when they’re wearing FIRE’s latest swag.”

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 2, 2021 — From its headquarters in Philadelphia (the Milan of southeastern Pennsylvania), the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education announces its first foray into “hot” couture with the launch of its swag store

“Forget Louis Vuitton and Madison Avenue — this is Louis Brandeis and James Madison,” said Alyssa Bennett, FIRE’s operations assistant and stylist extraordinaire.

Item available for purchase include:

  • FIRE hoodies — because censorship is uncomfortable, but clothes shouldn’t be;
  • FIRE drinkware so you can spill the tea without fear of censorship;
  • FIRE umbrellas to shield you from the rain while FIRE shields your rights;
  • FIRE blankets to keep you warm against chilling effects; and
  • FIRE notebooks to contain all your constitutionally-protected brainstorms.

To celebrate our store’s opening, FIRE is sending $100 gift certificates to campus leaders at our 10 Worst Colleges for Free Speech. (Well, we’re sending the certificates to most of them — two institutions that censored students got more than free swag: a lawsuit.)

“We bet it will be harder for administrators to silence students and faculty when they’re wearing FIRE’s latest swag,” said FIRE Production and Design Manager Chris Maltby.

FIRE encourages students, alumni, and administrators from the 10 Worst schools and anyone who enjoys free speech, due process, or sensible loungewear to head over to our swag store. It’s full of gifts perfect for any civil liberties lover … or hater.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit student rights organization dedicated to defending and sustaining the individual rights of students and faculty members at America’s colleges and universities. These rights include freedom of speech, freedom of association, due process, legal equality, religious liberty, and sanctity of conscience — the essential qualities of liberty.
