FIRE to Speak at Big Ten Student Government Conference

I will be speaking on Saturday at 9:30 AM at Penn State University for the next conference of the Association of Big Ten Students (ABTS). The lecture/discussion will be held at HUB-Robeson Center, but only a few extra seats are available. Contact me at adam@thefire.org if you would like to attend.

Penn State's student government, the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA), must feel honored to be hosting this year's conference. In previous years, ABTS had refused to recognize the UPUA because of its "inherently undemocratic" constitution and because of the way UPUA had been formed after the dissolution of the previous student government. But after making some significant changes, the UPUA has not only been welcomed back into the fold but also has been given the honor of hosting this year's ABTS conference. This is a testament to the power of outside pressure to help protect student liberties on campus.
