FIRE Welcomes Zach Greenberg to Staff

We’re excited to announce that Zach Greenberg has joined FIRE’s staff as our Justice Robert H. Jackson Legal Fellow.

If Zach looks like a familiar face, that’s because he is: He was a FIRE legal intern in 2015.

“What brought me back to FIRE was that every employee is as passionate about free speech as I am,” Zach said. “It keeps you motivated, and makes for a really fun workplace.”

A native New Yorker, Zach did his undergraduate work at the State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY Binghamton) before earning his law degree at Syracuse University College of Law (SUCOL) earlier this year.

He says he developed an appreciation for free speech as the president of the College Libertarians at SUNY Binghamton, and the president of the Federalist Society during law school. In both groups he sought to bring those with divergent opinions together for debate and discussion.

During law school, he also worked as a student attorney for SUCOL’s Criminal Defense Clinic, where he defended indigent Syracuse residents facing misdemeanor charges.

“My favorite thing about working on free speech issues is the sheer diversity of causes and ideas we defend,” Zach said. “I love how every day is something different, which keeps it new and exciting.”
