FIRE is pleased to announce that our 2017–18 annual report is now available online. The report details FIRE’s many successes over the past year, and presents stories and statistics that highlight the continuing and widespread impact our work is having in the fight for campus rights.

That fight has only grown more complex over the past year, as the national debate over the free speech and the culture on our campuses became even more contentious and polarized. In response, FIRE has continued to adapt to the changing landscape by coordinating a comprehensive program agenda aimed at real change. Thanks to the support of our donors, we won more victories than ever before, welcomed seven new schools to our list of “green light” institutions, attracted widespread media attention, marked a decline in the overall percentage of severely restrictive speech codes for the tenth straight year, made legislative gains, welcomed the rescission of the 2011 “Dear Colleague” letter, released new research and our first-ever polling surveys, coordinated successful student, faculty, and alumni outreach efforts, and much more. In recording these accomplishments, FIRE once again showed our ability to be an effective advocate for every student and faculty member’s individual rights and a strong, nonpartisan voice for democratic principles.

As we move into our 20th year, FIRE is more committed than ever to fulfilling that role and building on all of our success. Our work would not be possible without the generous support of our donors and allies like you, so thank you for empowering us to help students and faculty nationwide!
