FIRE’s Azhar Majeed and SPLC’s Adam Goldstein Team Up for Free Press Webinar

The first installment of FIRE’s spring webinar series is this Wednesday, February 26, at 4:00 p.m. EST. Azhar Majeed, director of FIRE’s Individual Rights Education Program, and Adam Goldstein, attorney advocate at the Student Press Law Center, will be hosting “Press for Freedom: Student Media and the First Amendment on Campus.” The webinar is just one component of FIRE’s Free Press Week, which we’ll be celebrating all week on The Torch!

The joint webinar by FIRE and the SPLC will cover the basic ground on students' First Amendment rights to freedom of the press on college campuses. It will discuss the state of the law with respect to student newspapers and media outlets, as well as what student journalists need to know in order to protect their free press rights. The panelists will discuss past cases in which FIRE and the SPLC have intervened to defend student journalists and publications, and what students can learn from these cases.

Students, faculty, and FIRE supporters are welcome to join FIRE and the SPLC for this free, live webinar. Hear from and interact with us from your computer, iPad, or smartphone. Just register for the webinar and download the GoToWebinar app. Not only is the webinar free, but you will also receive a free pair of FIRE sunglasses for attending!

All too often, FIRE sees student newspapers censored, and that censorship comes in many different forms. Register for this webinar today and learn how to amplify your voice on campus!
