Greg to Speak at Newseum Event: ‘First Amendment on College Campuses: Speech, Religion, Sexuality, Gender’

FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff will be among the experts on a March 21 Newseum event panel in Washington, D.C.: “First Amendment on College Campuses: Speech, Religion, Sexuality, Gender.” The event will begin at 7 p.m. EDT.

The panel will consider the status of free speech on college campuses by focusing on some of today’s most difficult First Amendment questions, including the impact of so-called “free speech zones” on campus expression and the tension between non-discrimination laws and freedom of religious association. The panel will also discuss LGBTQ rights, mandated contraception, and the impacts of Title IX.

Eugene Volokh, a University of California, Los Angeles law professor, author, and co-founder of the influential legal blog The Volokh Conspiracy, will deliver the keynote address and join the panel. Other panelists include Kim Colby, Director of the Christian Legal Society’s Center for Law and Religious Freedom; Hanna Rosin, author and senior editor at The Atlantic; and Heather Weaver, a senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union’s Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief.

Marshall Breger, Professor of Law at The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, will moderate. This event is being co-sponsored by Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law, Moment Magazine, and the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute.
