Joanna to Represent FIRE at Philly NetSquared's 'Crowdsourcing Change' Event

As we always say, the best way to combat speech you disagree with is to offer more speechand today, "Web 2.0" plays an increasingly important role in the marketplace of ideas.

Social media has become a powerful tool in FIRE's fight to protect free speech on college campuses across the nation. We've built dedicated communities on a number of different platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. We count on our online supporters to help us circulate our message, which now spreads beyond traditional media such as letters to colleges and universities, Torch posts, and national press releases. We also count on our supporters to provide the feedback and interaction necessary to start dialogues and debates.

When it comes to social media, if you're not ahead of the curve, you're behind. We are consistently working to enhance our online strategy. That's why, tonight, I will be representing FIRE at Philly NetSquared's semi-monthly "Crowdsourcing Change" event. At the event, representatives from three organizations will present their organizations' websites and share how they use the social web to advance our causes. Then, audience members will provide feedback so that we can improve our strategies. (Other organizations featured tonight are AIDS Policy Project and the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia.)

If you will be in Philly this evening, stop by the Friends Center (1501 Cherry Street) at 6:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided. RSVPs via Meetup or Facebook are appreciated for planning, but not required.

If you won't be in the area, you can watch the live Internet stream at http://phillynetsquared.org/live starting at 6:30 p.m., and you can contribute your questions and comments via Twitter using the hashtag #phlnet2. Please also feel free to direct comments toward FIRE's Twitter account, @thefireorg.

Thanks in advance for tuning in and commentingand, as always, for helping FIRE spread our message.
