John Leo, KC Johnson to Speak at CFN Conference

Famed journalist John Leo and Brooklyn College Professor KC Johnson will speak at FIRE's First Annual Campus Freedom Network Conference, "," to be held on June 26-28 at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia.

John Leo is a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, contributing editor to City Journal, and editor of Minding the Campus. A longtime champion of free speech on college campuses, Leo's syndicated column was carried in U.S. News & World Report and 140 other newspapers for 17 years. He has also served as a writer and editor for numerous publications, including Time Magazine, The New York Times, Commonweal, Trans-Action (now Society), and the Village Voice. Leo has authored three books, including Incorrect Thoughts: Notes on Our Wayward Culture and Two Steps ahead of the Thought Police. He will deliver the opening address after dinner on Thursday, June 26.

KC Johnson, professor of history at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center, is currently the Fulbright Distinguished Chair for the Humanities at Tel Aviv University. In addition to his many scholarly accomplishments, Johnson took the lead in revealing to the world the speciousness of the rape charges and dubious due process proceedings in the Duke Lacrosse case on his seminal blog, "Durham-in-Wonderland." With National Journal's Stuart Taylor Jr., he also authored the book Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and The Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case, the definitive account of that disturbing case and a damning indictment of the political correctness that nearly destroyed the lives of three innocent young men. Johnson will give the keynote address on Friday, June 27.

Conference registration is open to all college students who are members of the CFN. FIRE will cover all costs for students attending the conference, including lodging and meals, and is offering up to $300 travel scholarships to students traveling from outside the Philadelphia area.
