No one has been more important to bringing the danger posed by the use of “dispositions” criteria by education schools to public attention than KC Johnson of Brooklyn College. On the History News Network’s blog, he gives an extensive account of the problem and how he learned about it first hand back in 2004. NCATE’s decision to remove the vague and politically loaded “social justice” language from its materials is due in no small part to KC Johnson and his successful efforts to explain how such terms virtually necessitate political litmus tests. Those of us who believe that educators have no business mandating what politics their students must have owe him a debt of gratitude.
