Mary Zoeller returns to FIRE as Policy Reform program officer

Former legal intern Mary Zoeller has returned to FIRE full time as a program officer in our Policy Reform department.

“I am very excited to come back to FIRE,” said Mary, a Philadelphia native. She recently graduated from Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law, where she participated in Villanova’s Clinic for Law and Entrepreneurship and was a member of the Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal.

“After working here as a legal intern in 2016, I got exposure to a lot of different departments at FIRE,” she said. “I was especially excited to come back and work with Policy Reform because I feel like it’s a growing area.”

Mary will begin her tenure in Policy Reform encouraging colleges and universities to adopt the Chicago Statement — the FIRE-endorsed, gold standard of free speech policy statements in higher education.

The Policy Reform department has been encouraged by recent measures at Georgetown University, University of Missouri, and Kansas State University to adopt versions of the Chicago Statement. “Hopefully, I can help us take advantage of that momentum, so we can add more schools to the list,” Mary added.

“When I was looking for a job, I remembered how committed I was to FIRE’s mission,” Mary said. “I am so excited to have the opportunity to come back.”

We’re glad to have you on board again, Mary.
