In the last year, FIRE has been busier than ever before in our two decades of defending student and faculty rights. The pandemic brought new challenges — and a dramatic increase in our cases. Our work is in high demand, and to keep up with that demand, FIRE is actively hiring for seven positions.

Staff Attorney

FIRE is expanding its litigation capabilities and is seeking a full-time staff attorney with one or two years of legal experience to join its litigation team and represent students and professors at public colleges and universities to defend freedom of speech and conscience, due process, and academic freedom. Program Officer, Individual Rights Defense Program

The Program Officer will assist with the day to day operations of FIRE’s Individual Rights Defense Program (IRDP) and work closely with the department’s Director and staff. Read more.

Digital Marketing Associate

The Digital Marketing Associate will report to and work directly with FIRE’s Digital Marketing Manager, in addition to working with all of FIRE programs to ensure proper promotion of FIRE’s work. Read more.

Faculty Legal Defense Fund Director

FIRE seeks an experienced attorney to serve as a full-time Director to oversee the legal defense fund, recruit counsel and manage a national network of participating firms, and ensure faculty clients receive timely, capable representation. Read more.

Faculty Legal Defense Fund Fellow

To augment our defense of faculty rights, FIRE is launching a faculty hotline to more quickly and effectively assist public university faculty facing threats to their expressive rights or academic freedom. FIRE seeks an attorney to serve as a Faculty Legal Defense Fund Fellow to manage this faculty hotline. Read more.

Summer 2021 Legal Internship Program

FIRE’s summer legal internship is open to first- and second-year law students attending accredited institutions in the United States.

Summer Internship Program

FIRE offers a ten-week, paid Summer Internship as part of our efforts to educate students about their rights at colleges and universities. This internship gives current undergraduates the opportunity to assist FIRE in defending civil liberties on campuses across the country. Read more.
