New York ex rel. Bryant v. Zimmerman et al.

By November 19, 1928

In People of State of New York ex rel. Bryant v. Zimmerman, the Supreme Court upholds a New York law that mandated organizations requiring their members to take oaths file certain organizational documents with the secretary of state. The Court writes:

There can be no doubt that under that power the state may prescribe and apply to associations having an oath-bound membership any reasonable regulation calculated to confine their purposes and activities within limits which are consistent with the rights of others and the public welfare.
