A dispute has escalated between a small college in New York state and a student who was barred from the school's teacher training program because he wrote a paper in support of corporal punishment.
Graduate student Scott McConnell handed in an assignment in which he described his ideal classroom environment, which involved "strong discipline and hard work" and which included "corporal punishment."
