News Articles Report: Liberty in Danger on Campus

In the past few days, several notable newspaper and magazine articles have described the poor environment for liberty on America’s campuses. FIRE cofounder Harvey Silverglate is cited extensively in an Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal article about the potential for injustice in campus tribunals. The editor in chief of the Michigan Daily, the University of Michigan’s student newspaper, penned an eloquent column defending freedom of speech, inquiry, and the press on campus, while the British Economist magazine (subscription required) took an outside look at American universities’ worldwide dominance—and how they need to reform if they want to stay that way. More coverage of these remarkable articles is available on FIRE’s blog, The Torch.
