Only One Week Left to Apply for FIRE’s 2013 Internship Program!

Applications for FIRE's Summer Internship Program are due next week on Friday, March 15. This eight-week paid internship gives a select group of undergraduates the opportunity to spend the summer doing substantive work on behalf of free speech and student rights in FIRE's Philadelphia office. As a former FIRE intern myself, I strongly encourage all students who support free speech on campus to apply.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Listen to what some of last year's interns have  to say about the program:

After the FIRE internship, it is impossible for me to sit on the sidelines apathetically regarding my campus rights. Instead, I am infused with a new sense of the importance of debate, free inquiry and—yes, even what is unpopular. It is a feeling that has fortified me into a junior watchdog, desiring to root out injustices and fight as hard for others' First Amendment rights as I would my own.

Danielle LaHee, University of Richmond 2014

Working at FIRE puts you in an environment that parallels the best of free speech societies, and makes it clear why defending those freedoms on campus is so crucial.

Luke Wachob, James Madison University 2013

I was able to engage in thought-provoking conversations with lecturers, fellow interns, and FIRE staff everyday, an experience that I found both fun and tremendously valuable. I am walking away from this internship with a newfound interest in constitutional law, a huge appreciation for what FIRE does, and a group of great friends.

Yean Do, Georgetown University 2013

Through my experience with FIRE, I have come to further understand the importance of guaranteeing First Amendment rights on college campuses, and now have the necessary tools to protect those freedoms at my own university.

Emily Harrison, University of Wisconsin-Madison 2013
