Podcast Further Explains FIRE’s Policy Statement on Political Activity on Campus

Last week, FIRE released a Policy Statement on Political Activity on Campus in response to numerous attacks on political expression at colleges and universities across the country. With the 2008 election only weeks away, the policy statement details the freedom of political expression that students, student groups, faculty, and staff at public and private universities should expect at their institutions. The statement also reminds university administrators of their legal and moral obligations to ensure the protection of the political expression of students and faculty.

Today's episode of FIREside Chats takes an in-depth look at the statement, with FIRE's Director of Legal and Public Advocacy, Will Creeley, and Robert H. Jackson Legal Fellow Azhar Majeed further explaining which types of political expression are allowed (and which ones aren't) on campus. This podcast contains vital information for students and faculty who are confused about the limits of political speech at their schools, and offers a clear description of where the law on this issue stands.
