Senate Conducts Investigation of Bribery Charges Against William Lorimer

On May 28, 1910, Senator William Lorimer of Illinois requested a Senate investigation into allegations made by the Chicago Tribune that he participated in bribery and corruption in order to obtain his senate seat. On June 1, the Senate referred the investigation to the Committee on Privileges and Elections. Lorimer was exonerated.
